5% of sales will be donated to biodiversity conservancy. We are aware that the fashion industry is one of most polluting industries in the world and we can’t ignore that. This is why besides using materials with minimal impact on the environment, Verde Mater commits to donating 5% of revenue to Natura, a non profit organization that preserves and restores nature diversity in Colombia.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
Colombia is a diverse country full of contrasts. Whilst it is a developing country with a large economic gap, it is also a beautiful country rich in culture and diverse ancestral artisanal traditions.
Many of the women who help materialize our vision are generational knitters, who are single mothers or housewives. By trusting our production with them, they can earn extra income, have the flexibility to knit from home and take care of their families. Our goal is to be able to grow and impact the lives of many more women around Colombia and Latin America.
OUR COMMITMENT TO NATURE
All of us share the same mother, some call it, Gaia, or Mother Earth, we call it Verde Mater. “Verde” means Green in Spanish and “Mater” Mother in Latin. When we think about the source of life we imagine a balanced green and thriving ecosystem. We want to actively work towards a green future by supporting nature restoration projects, this is why we commit to donating 10% of our profits to the Nature Conservancy.
FIQUE: WHAT IS IT AND WHY DO WE USE IT?
Fique, is a plant endemic to the Andes region, its production doesn’t use any pesticides or fertilizers since it’s grown and harvested in its natural environment. One plant of Fique can be productive for up to 50 years. It is usually grown locally by farmers local to the Andes region and it represents an important income for them. Farmers extract the fiber from the plant and local workshops dye it and twist it manually.
